And now, a few words from me:

Hi, my name is Nutmeg.  Although I've had a difficult start in life, I've managed to find my 'happy dog' place in the world.  I have overcome so many obstacles, Heartworm (low grade) being one of them.  I have since won that battle and now I'm ready to start searching for my new home and family.
I don't like a lot of loud or sudden noises as they tend to startle me, so a quiet home would make me happiest.  I am an excellent companion dog for anyone who likes lap dogs.  Nice walks with my humans and any other dogs would be enough to make me happy.  I'm not a high energy dog.  When meeting new people, I can still sometimes be a bit nervous, so I prefer it if people approach me in a calm, quiet demeaner.  I try real hard when meeting new people because I know I can overcome my fears; I've overcome so much up to now.
I've been in rescue for a long time now ONLY because of my previous heartworm status, and through no fault of my own.  No one wanted to adopt me when I had heartworm.  I hope more people would be willing to open their hearts and homes and give me a chance now that I no longer have heartworm.

And now, a few words from my foster mom:

Well it's been a very long road for Nutmeg to get to this point, but she is now ready to find her forever home.  Nutmeg came into Loyal Rescue from the U.S. and was heartworm positive (low grade).  I'm so pleased to finally announce, that after many months of treatment, recent blood tests reveal that our sweet foster girl is now heartworm FREE!  We couldn't be more happy for her to have all that behind her; it's full speed ahead, no looking back.

Nutmeg is the sweetest little dog who will steal your heart right away.  She can be a bit fearful to some degree still when meeting new people, but has enjoyed tremendous improvements and many successful milestones since arriving.  She is a more confident little girl who loves to engage other dogs in play, once she gets to know the dog.  She has a little foster brother who is her 'boy toy', a chihuahua half her size named Taco whom she loves and adores and will snuggle and kiss.  He's been her constant companion and reassurance during her time in rescue and she has learned so much from him, as well as her other foster brothers and sisters.

Nutmeg is mostly house trained and does well as long as she has routine and gets out regularly.  A quiet (adults ONLY) home with no children would be best for Nutmeg as she still can startle very easily and be prone to run.  Nutmeg is a gentle little soul with so much love to give and will show you her little bum bum when you talk sweetly to her.  She really is quite a character.

Before you decide to bring in a furry addition to your family, please take a moment and try to think about your life over the next 10 to 15 years - or even more. Where will you be? Do you have plans to move? Travel? Have kids? Are you able to provide the dog with his or her required exercise demands? Please think very carefully about how this dog will fit into your life as new events may unfold. We want to ensure that this dog’s next home is also its last. If you’ve thought about all of the above and think that you may be the 'last stop' we look forward to receiving your application! Please ensure that you submit a fully completed application. Often we receive several applications for the same dog and if you leave out important details then you may be inadvertently eliminating yourself from consideration. Please visit the FAQ section on our website for more details. Thank you so much for considering a rescued dog.

LOYAL Rescue is a foster based rescue with homes located throughout the province and in the United States. We do not operate a shelter, thus do not have viewing hours. Each pet is in a private home. In order to adopt this pet, please visit our website www.loyalrescue.com and fill in our online application. If you have any questions, please email us by clicking here.

Once you submit the online adoption application, we will arrange for a volunteer to contact you to conduct the telephone interview. The same volunteer will also contact your veterinarian and personal references. If the interview and references go well, a home visit will be booked. Should you be the successful applicant for this pet, you are then welcome to come and meet the dog. You are not obligated to adopt if the fit is not correct, however we must go through this process prior to you meeting the dog.

LOYAL Rescue is 100% volunteer run.

Please read the FAQ section of the LOYAL website, prior to applying to adopt from us.

Our Adoption Process...
All adoptions REQUIRE an application to be filled out. There is an online application at www.loyalrescue.com. Once you complete the application, we will call you to answer any of your questions and confirm details before proceeding. We then call your vet for a reference, and call each of the three references you list on your application. If all goes well, we visit your home to confirm this is the best possible home for the dog you are applying to adopt. If you are approved, you then fill out a contract, pay an adoption fee (between $300-$400) and adopt the dog. ALL DOGS are up to date on shots, spayed/neutered (unless too old, unhealthy or too young to do), dewormed, defleaed and health checked before going to their new home.
