Milo's Story...

Once upon a time, a cat that was covered in dirt and starving, nearly on the brink of death, made his way to HSNY by a miracle. We weren't sure if he was going to make it but after the first week, we knew he would be OK. He slowly gained weight and cleaned up. It was like night and day! Turns out Milo is a pretty chill, lovely, medium-haired cat. Absolutely gorgeous and a pleasure to see. He isn't the biggest fan of the camera but he is social, on the chatty side and will make a great housemate!

We really appreciate your wanting to give a shelter animal a home and encourage you to search for just the right pet.
Head to and either email it back to, fax it to (212) 752-2803 or bring it in to the Humane Society of New York, 306 East 59 Street (between 1st + 2nd Avenues) New York, NY 10022. Our adoption hours are 7 days a week, 10:30 - 4:00

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Milo, a New York Domestic Mediumhair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Mediumhair for sale in New York, or seeking a Domestic Mediumhair cat from a breeder in New York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in New York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a New York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Mediumhair breeders who help with Domestic Mediumhair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in New York paves the way for another one to be saved.
