Red Fred's Story...
Red Fred is about 4 months old and 20 pounds...our vet estimates his birthday as Valentine's Day! He's a beautiful and very shy little Sheltie, Dachshund mix. He has the classic red coloring and black nails of the weiner dog, but his soft coat is fluffy suggesting sheltie in the gene pool as well. The sweet and delicate face could be either.

Red Fred's personality is very quiet and loving. He needs to be treated with lot of gentle attention in order to trust his new master. Red Fred and his littermates were dumped at a park in May when they were only 3 months old. When the dog warden came to retrieve the litter, Red Fred ran and hid in a huge bramble patch! Sometimes it's good to be the scaredy cat, because he was eventually retrieved from the bramble and got to go to a loving foster home. The other puppies went to the animal shelter.

Red Fred is doing very well with his house manners, and has had only one accident in the 3 weeks in foster care. He sleeps in the crate at night, but is quite the escape artist if left in during the day. However, when he gets out of is crate he goes to his corner and there he stays until his foster mom returns. He hasn't bothered anything in the house. He likes children when they're calm and gentle, but is still very shy around anyone new.

He travels very well, we have taken him camping, he was quiet, doesn't bark much at all. We also took him to Michigan for 4 day visit and he was the perfect gentlemen. He will make a great pet and will be very loyal.

Please apply online if you're thinking of adopting sweet Red Fred www.rescueAhart.org . Thanks!

Red Fred is neutered. He has a microchip and is up to date on all his vaccines including bordatella. He's on preventative for heartworm and fleas/ticks. He's ready for you.
