Meet Marvin!

Marvin is approximately 1-2 years old and is a pit bull terrier mix. Marvin was a stray that came to our wonderful foster mom’s house on 2/1/12. He had a rope tied around his neck. He was in really bad shape when he found our foster mom and was extremely skinny and had several old wounds on his neck. His coat was in such bad shape his black hair had turned orange from being left outside with no shelter.

Marvin has been receiving lots of love and good care in his foster home and healed and healthy now. Marvin is crate trained and almost fully house trained. He does well with most dogs and he really enjoys all the attention he can get. He is great with his foster mom’s child.

Marvin is microchipped, neutered, up to date on all vaccines and heartworm negative.

While Marvin is in a wonderful foster home, he very much would love a home of his own, where he is spoiled rotten as he should be.

Please consider adding him to your family, and giving him a loving home.

Paws New England as recently joined VCA Animal Hospitals in a program providing new adopters with a certificate for an initial health exam at a VCA Hospital and treatment of certain conditions free of charges for the first 5 days. This is a great program and PAWS is thrilled to be participating in for our adopter

QUARANTINE (RI & MASSACHUSETTS)

Due to new regulations put forth, as of 6/1/2012, all dogs traveling from TN, MO, or GA [or other non-contiguous states] with a final home in Rhode Island or Massachusetts will be quarantined for a period of 5 days; dogs will arrive on Saturday, spend 5 days in quarantine, be examined by veterinarian, and released to adopters on the following Friday/Saturday. A health certificate fee of $25.00 will be required at the time of dog pickup.

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (general health exam, vaccinations, heartworm testing/treatment when necessary)

PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives.

We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" ..... The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support ALL rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in discounted vet care, and many people will want to adopt it; an older dog with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt him/her. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others.

About Our Rescue Group...
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.

Come Meet Our Pets...
All of our dogs are located either in foster homes in New England or Tennessee/Missouri. Please email our volunteers to ask about the specific pet that you are interested in.
