Rusty-FREE READ BIO's Info...
I am purebred and a special needs pet.
Rusty is an 8 year old long haired dachshund who came into rescue with his daughter, Chrissie(also listed). Rusty's previous owner was an elderly lady who could no longer provide them with proper care so she had to surrender them. Rusty is a special dog who survived a debilitating back injury-he had broken his spine and it was feared that he would never walk again. His previous owner did do everything that she could to see that he would...Rusty was operated on, had the use of a doggie wheelchair and now walks unaided so she was successful in pulling him through. However, because of his injury, he is not able to jump on your bed and may have some stiffening in his back as he ages. He will need to have a quieter home where he will not run the risk of being re-injured. For this reason, we are listing him as special needs. He will require a "softer" touch and although he does get along with young children, they would not be recommended for this dog only for the medical reasons and potential danger to Rusty. Rusty would also be best suited as an only dog or with another small dog. He tends to like to be dominant and this could get him into trouble. Rusty should probably be pampered as an only child ideally. Rusty has not been neutered yet but we will get him squared away with all of his medical needs before he goes home. Rusty will make someone a nice companion but will need all of the special considerations mentioned above in that home.He is not housebroken to the outside but has been paper/wee wee pad trained. It should not be difficult to get him completely housebroken with regular and consistent potty breaks outside should you choose. If you can give Rusty a quiet home with limited physical activity, then please submit your interest via email and your adoption application. Rusty's adoption fee is $150.
