Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Notes: PawPaw, young male, hound/retriever mix, medium size
If you have looked at these pictures in the large size, chances are you have already felt a twinge of concern for this dog with the worried expression on his face. Well, you don't need to worry too much. Some of this doleful look comes from the hound that PawPaw clearly has in his ancestry. The rest of it is simply a reflection of his timidity and desire to please.
PawPaw came from a situation where he was under-socialized, but never mistreated. He is naturally somewhat timid and will need to be encouraged by his new human(s), and we think that giving him structure will help him considerably.
That said, we at Hedgesville Hounds have a suspicion that maybe PawPaw isn't quite as frightened as he acts sometimes. Specifically, we have observed that although PawPaw will quake and posture submissively, he never fails to immediately consume any delicious treat that crosses his path, regardless of the circumstances during which the treat was provided. The treat could have been offered by an enormous angry bear hurling lightning bolts and PawPaw would still manage to gobble it up before beating a hasty retreat. This ability to glom on to snacks is a sign that he is not overly stressed, and an excellent clue as to how to train this cute, sad-eyed guy.
