Luna's Story...
Luna, with her stick up ears, tail dipped in white paint and sweet little face is 13 lbs of wiggly fun! Affectionate, friendly, loves kids, about 5 years old, she would be perfect for anyone. She knows basic commands and listens well. Luna LOVES her treats! She warms to people quickly with treats in their hand. She is the type of dog that is ready for anything. We take her with us in the car and she rides well. She loves to walk and has her own opinion about which way to go. It is so funny! She very quickly learned the way home and when she has had enough, she heads for home. Luna has a sweet and gentle nature. She loves to be near us and just relax. She is very low maintenance. One of the most endearing things about her is that she likes to sleep under the covers. She will burrow in and snuggle up! She also sleeps as long as we do! (a real bonus on weekends!!!) She finds a sunny spot and lifts her closed eyes to the sun and you know all is right in her world. When she is excited she leaps like a gazelle! It is too cute. On days we need to be out of the house for an extended period, Luna has been trained to use a pee pad. Otherwise, she was easy to train to go in one spot in the yard with "pee drops". We have fallen in love with her in just a very short time. If I did not have to travel extensively for work, she would be a part of our family. She is a keeper!!

Please see our other available dogs at Grateful Dogs Rescue. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial medical and other costs in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we must charge an adoption fee. The adoption fee for Luna is $200.

If you are interested in adopting Luna, please complete our online adoption application. One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area.

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
Grateful Dogs Rescue, a non-profit organization, was founded over 20 years ago by Michelle Parris, a former SF Animal Care & Control (SFACC) volunteer. She made it her mission to rescue SFACC shelter dogs not made available for adoption because they needed some medical help or some behavioral training. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs Rescue saves as many shelter dogs as possible by fostering these special-needs dogs until a loving home is found.
Come Meet Our Pets...
Our dogs live in nurturing foster homes provided by volunteers. If you are interested in adopting one of our Grateful dogs, please complete our adoption application. One of our volunteers will get back to you.
Our Adoption Process...
The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy human and happy dog in a "forever home." The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home inspection, and an adoption fee. The adoption fee helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Adoptions are local, confined to the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Mateo County, Santa Clara, and Marin County, except in unusual circumstances.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Luna, a San Francisco Rat Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rat Terrier for sale in San Francisco, or seeking a Rat Terrier dog from a breeder in San Francisco.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in San Francisco already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a San Francisco breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rat Terrier breeders who help with Rat Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in San Francisco paves the way for another one to be saved.
