I like to play, chew stuff, eat things, and snore. But my foster mom says you need to know more about me than just that so she wrote all this other stuff...
Stew is approximately 1 yr old neutered male pitbull/boxer(?) mix. He weighs around 50# and as you can see, he is very handsome :-)
Stewie came out of the Dearborn Animal Shelter where he was found as a stray when he was just a baby pup! The kind folks at the shelter knew a bratty, pushy puppy when they saw one and immediately called for rescue help.
When Stewie first came to us, he was like a baby alligator - biting everything in sight, hanging off of pant legs and shoes, and a very determined young man! He struggled to accept human authority and had his own ideas of how things should go :-)
Fortunately, Stew went to live with a trainer who was unfazed by his antics. She began working with him immediately on self-control exercises, teaching him patience, basic obedience, etc. Stewie, being the smart little guy that he is, has responded beautifully to training and is quite the gentleman these days! He has been socialized with dogs, cats, kids - but despite his extensive socializing we would like Stewie to be an only pet. As he's grown up, Stew has become more and more dog selective and definitely prefers human companionship over other dogs.
Stewie has many interests - he likes to fetch toys, swim, snuggle, chew bones, go for car rides, play tug, go for walks, take naps, jog next to a bike, zoom around the yard at 100 mph, gut stuffed animals, and learn new things! He has been introduced to some basic agility equipment and loves it too! Stewie is crate trained, potty trained, and knows various obedience commands...sit, lay down, wait, out, come...and his leash manners aren't too shabby either!
Stewie's forever home must be willing to keep up with his training and set rules for him. If he's allowed to walk all over you, he will become a holy terror in no time, despite all his training!! You see, he knows how to behave, but he will only do it if he thinks he has to ;-)
Included in Stew's adoption will be a couple of free training sessions. After freebies, discounted training sessions and endless training advice will be available for life! Keeping up with Stewie's training is going to be the key to his successful adoption!
