Pat the Cat's Story...
Pat is a sweet, curious little boy who loves soaking up affection. Pat’s about one year old, and is gentle and friendly. He loves to cuddle, and even likes being cradled like a baby. He’s so happy to be rescued, he wants to be with his people all the time. He follows close behind while you do chores, and rubs against your legs when you stop moving. He sleeps on the bed, in fact he likes to cuddle up on your pillow! Pat is gifted with the well documented “cat super-power” of being comfortable stuffed into small boxes, and takes power naps in a shoebox.

Pat was rescued from an alley behind his foster parents’ home, where he'd been living for a few months on his own. He'd sleep under their porch and watch them come and go, meowing as if to say, "Bring me inside!" Fortunately they realized that was a great idea, and brought him in! Pat is very grateful to be safe and sound indoors and get lots of attention and loving care.

Pat is not only completely in love with people, but is fine with dogs. Since his caretakers also rescue dogs, they had been concerned about whether he could get along inside with their dogs. But Pat fits right in – he follows his foster parents’ beagle around, and politely tolerates a respectful pit bull.

When they picked Pat up it was clear he had something odd about one eye, and the veterinarian performed surgery on his eyelid – it was turned inside out, and the eyelashes were irritating his eyeball. He’s healing properly, and sees normally. He’s also neutered and vaccinated now, and tests negative for FIV/FeLV. Now he just needs a few extra stuffed mice, cardboard boxes for napping, and a loving family of his own.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pat the Cat, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
