My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Two year old Donnie had been picked up by animal control as a stray. He passed the shelter temperament tests with flying colors so he was one of the lucky dogs made available for adoption. Unfortunately, after a couple of weeks, with few adoptions happening at the shelter, Donnie found himself out of time.

One of our volunteers was picking up a senior doxie at the shelter and asked about saving Donnie who was labeled a doxie mix. He was scheduled to be put to sleep at the end of the day. We asked how doxie he looked and were told he had a long body and very short legs. We agreed to squeeze him in to our overcrowded foster home. When we met Donnie later that evening, we saw that the long body portion was right, but his legs are short only if compared to a greyhound! (Knowing dachshund rescue is a dog’s last hope seems to make their legs shrink to anyone who views them).

We have decided that Donnie is a Meerkat, Hyena and doxie mix. Oh, and since French Bulldog rescue gets 300 applications for each available dog, we are sure he has some Frenchie in him also!

Regardless of Donnie’s genetic background, what we do know for certain is that he Is an all around nice dog. He likes people and he likes dogs. He tries very hard to please. He entertains the dogs in his foster home by starting the morning and evening races, where all the dogs zoom after him like cars on a racetrack.

We believe Donnie would do well with kids. He would fine either with a canine companion or as an only dog. He loves his walks and is always raring to go. Donnie has longer legs so a home with stairs would be no problem.

Donnie is now crate trained. He is neutered, micro chipped and current on his vaccinations..
