HAZEL: A DOG WHISPERER?'s Story...
Hazel's personality is extremely affectionate, loving, PEOPLE-ORIENTED. She is 1 year old--she's on the small-medium side, around 35 lbs. Our vet says that if she lived in a pack in the wild, she would perform the "nurturer" role for the other animals. She always wants to keep peace and keep everyone calm. She's exceptionally good with other dogs, especially males (non aggressive dogs only, will be totally submissive with dominant dogs, as if she were in a pack in the wild--so no aggressive dogs, please). SHE LOVES CHILDREN. ALWAYS HAPPY, ENERGETIC, LOVING. Hazel's parentage is unknown, though she's a scruffy terrier mix (possibly some Australian Shepherd in there--she loves to "herd" people). She has an adorable scruffy beard and slight underbite that is beyond cute. Looks a bit like Benji. She wants to go everywhere you go, she wants to integrate fully with YOUR pack. Loves being with the family. Favorite thing in the world is to sleep in bed--loves it when our 5 and 7 year old boys use her as a pillow (she adores them) Got slapped by our cat and is holding a grudge (cat's fault, and Hazel won't forget it). Hazel's ideal home is one where someone is usually HOME. She would NOT do well being left alone for a typical work day. She does not like to be crated. Unlike many dogs, she won't gobble her food down. She acts like she's in a 5 star restaurant and nibbles each morsel with pure enjoyment. Our other dogs end up just watching her finish her meal as they drool.
Hazel is among the most precious dogs we've ever rescued. She DEFINITELY among the most loving, upbeat, outgoing, and smart. It's hilarious to watch her play. She is a fuzzy package of 100% love. Hazel is a frequent "pottier"--she doesn't like to hold her urine for extended periods of time, which is another reason she must go to a home where someone will be around much of the day. Though she doesn't enjoy a crate because she wants to be WITH YOU, if you let her run around outside for a while and wear her down (fenced yard only), she will stay in a crate for 4-5 hours. She CAN sleep in a crate overnight, but she's going to let you know she doesn't like it by vocalizing in a way that sounds like a person saying "wow, wow, wow..." During the day, she's running free in the home or in our fenced backyard. Hazel is 100% healthy. Wants to learn, highly trainable. We've rescued many dogs, she's among "the great" ones. Total family girl. Email tahoemark@charter.net for an application form. Adoption fee is $100.
