Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sweetie is a senior pittie who is blind. She was rescued from CACC by Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance on February 28. This is her story.
Sweetie was adopted from CACC several years ago, but when she lost her sight, her registered owner apparently dumped her. She was found by a young women who kept her safe for about 3 weeks, and then she was taken into a home by a young man, where she lived for about a year, with the young man and his mother. Sometime in December, 2011, she went missing. The young man believed she had escaped from the home somehow, and reported her missing on December 17, 2011. After reporting her missing, he discovered that his mother had actually dumped Sweetie on the street, subsequently signing a lease in a building which did not allow pets. The young man wanted Sweetie back, but could not have her because he lives with his mother, AND Sweetie was gone. In the meantime, Christy Carberry, a friend of a friend, was spending countless hours distributing fliers, cross-posting and searching for Sweetie.
On January 21, 2012, Sweetie came into CACC as a stray. How this poor blind dog managed to survive on the streets of Chicago for over a month in the winter, will never be known. Sweetie had a microchip registered with her original owners, but they did not respond when contacted. On January 26, Amaliya Deluxx, who works with another rescue in the Chicago area, saw Sweetie in the back area of the shelter, and recognized her as being the subject of the search. She took a photo of poor Sweetie, sitting alone in the corner at CACC, and from that point many people networked and advocated for Sweetie to find rescue. That effort was successful when, on February 28th, Famous Fido Rescue was able to bring Sweetie to safety.
Sweetie’s story is not over yet, however. Since being rescued by Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance, she has been in boarding at the vet, where 2 cancerous masses were discovered on her leg and near her tail. Sweetie underwent successful surgery to remove the cancerous tumors on March 15th. The cancer had not spread, and Sweetie is recovering.
However, Sweetie is still in desperate need of a foster of forever home to live out her golden years. Because she is blind, it must be a home without other pets or very small children. Sweetie had lots of people following her story and networking for her, but so far, no one has come forward to help her take that last step to her happy ending. Additionally, Famous Fido has incurred very large expenses for Sweetie’s boarding and medical needs.
If you can help Famous Fido pay off some of Sweetie’s expenses, by donating any amount, please click on the donate button at the top of the Famous Fido Facebook page, or go to the Famous Fido website www.famousfidorescue.com.
