Nina's Story...
Nina is a Collie mix. People hear Collie and think of a larger dog but she's only about 15 pounds so she would be good in a house or an apartment. She's a little shy and is bilingual! We recommend a home with no small children however she loves people and especially when they give her belly rubs, she just gets spooked easily so she is also looking for someone with a bit of a more relaxed environment.

We really appreciate your wanting to give a shelter animal a home and encourage you to search for just the right pet.
Head to humanesocietyny.org/adoptions and either email it back to k9care@verizon.net, fax it to (212) 752-2803 or bring it in to the Humane Society of New York, 306 East 59 Street (between 1st + 2nd Avenues) New York, NY 10022. Our adoption hours are 7 days a week, 10:30 - 4:00

The Humane Society of New York is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We offer FREE Vet care for the first 3 weeks after adoption. We also have a great adoption matchmaker who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. Please feel free to submit your application!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nina, a New York Collie dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Collie for sale in New York, or seeking a Collie dog from a breeder in New York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in New York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a New York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Collie breeders who help with Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in New York paves the way for another one to be saved.
