Meet Buckshot!
Update from NH Foster mom (2/18/13):
Buckshot is doing so well after his initial transition. He is not destructive at all, and he is very gentle taking treats. We have been crating him at night which he seems fine with him but honestly I believe once I am completely confident that he will not pee in the house (has been GREAT as of late) he will be able to have full run.
He seems to respond well to training so with little effort this dog is going to be a great companion. Even though he is good with my dogs, I still think he would be fine as a solo dog. And the other thing is he LOVES MEN, he like me fine but he seems to really like my husband and other men that have come in the house.
Buckshot is participating better with activities in house, and this am we did a 45 min walk down our snowmobile trails and he was off leash. He came immediately to me every time ( turned on a dime in fact! we have been working on this). It was awesome. We really need to find this dog a forever home. He is wonderful!
Prior Bio:
Buckshot is a 1-2 year old 50 pound terrier/lab mix that was dumped at a trucking company in the rural south. The employees kept him around for quite some time played with him and fed him, but they grew concerned after he was almost hit by a a car. {The company were located on a busy road.} They contacted the local vet about him, who in turn called our MO foster mom to see if she would try to find him a home through PAWS. She obliged:))
Buckshot is "just a great wholesome dog". He can entertain himself or is a great playmate for dogs of all sizes at our foster mom's sanctuary. She said that he will respond to commands (with a bit of persistence)and is very, very smart. She said that he is "just gorgeous" in person. He is fully vetted, neutered and HW negative!
Please consider giving this handsome guy a loving home!
Thank you for your interest in a rescue dog. They are simply the best!!

Paws New England as recently joined VCA Animal Hospitals in a program providing new adopters with a certificate for an initial health exam at a VCA Hospital and treatment of certain conditions free of charges for the first 5 days. This is a great program and PAWS is thrilled to be participating in for our adopter
QUARANTINE (RI & MASSACHUSETTS)
Due to new regulations put forth, as of 6/1/2012, all dogs traveling from TN, MO, or GA [or other non-contiguous states] with a final home in Rhode Island or Massachusetts will be quarantined for a period of 5 days; dogs will arrive on Saturday, spend 5 days in quarantine, be examined by veterinarian, and released to adopters on the following Friday/Saturday. A health certificate fee of $25.00 will be required at the time of dog pickup.
The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (general health exam, vaccinations, heartworm testing/treatment when necessary)
PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives.
We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" ..... The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support ALL rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in discounted vet care, and many people will want to adopt it; an older dog with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt him/her. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others.
Rescue Group Info...
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.
Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
All of our dogs are located either in foster homes in New England or Tennessee/Missouri. Please email our volunteers to ask about the specific pet that you are interested in.
