Sherlock's Info...

I am already neutered, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs.

Sherlock's Story...
Sherlock arrived at the shelter as a VERY skinny stray; he is filling out well, and weighs about 55 pounds now. We think he is some sort of hound mix, and he was born around 12/1/11 - that makes him a big ol' goofy puppy still! Sherlock is friendly and playful, and gets along well with other dogs.

Sherlock is trying hard to be housetrained, but he has a little trouble holding it for the long periods in his shelter kennel between exercise breaks; he should fully housetrain pretty quickly once he has a home with more frequent access to the outdoors, and someone who can let him out right away when he has to go. His leash behavior is average - he is definitely smart and looks to his person, wanting to please them, which is a good indicator that he will get obedience training down fast. Sherlock's favorite games are "chase" with the other dogs around his size (they take turns being "chaser" and "chasee" as they race full speed all over the big fenced dog yard), and "fetch" (though at the beginning of a game of fetch, he is so excited to get the toy he will often race in big circles with it for several minutes before remembering to bring it back to the person, HA).

We think Sherlock will make an excellent companion dog - can't you just see him riding shotgun in a truck (or even a SmartCar, too cute)? He will do best with a fenced yard, as his nose could easily lead him off on a 10-mile adventure following some intriguing scent. He should do well even in homes with small children, as long as the children and Sherlock are all properly supervised. "No riding the dog!" "No knocking over the toddler with your tail!"

As an older pup, Sherlock comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.

Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!)

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your payment to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sherlock, a Republic Hound (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Republic, or seeking a Hound (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Republic.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Republic already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Republic breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Republic paves the way for another one to be saved.
