Look who is looking for you!

Havanese/ Shih Tzus – there must have been a very busy little Shih Tzu loose at the end of April. Here are 4 darling pups with a Shih Tzu look and a Havanese coat. Very bright little pups, they are an unusual combination. Havanese is another uncommon breed with a great coat and a delightful personality. Two boys – Hermann has one blue eye, and Harry has the cutest markings. Hannah is Miss Congeniality. The adoption fee on these babies is $275. Hermione is the most energetic and playful of them all but, I believe she is deaf. She is a Special Needs pup. Deaf dogs are often so slightly impacted by their handicap that it is hard to detect. They train very well with a tap on the floor – the vibration gets their attention - and hand signals. This special girl’s adoption fee is $150.

Havanese and Shih Tzus –will that make them doubly low to no shed? They have a softer coat than if they were all Shi Tzu and, of course, they are all charming and sweet, fluffy and friendly. The Shih Tzu is at the top of the popular list for little dogs. Not enough people know about the darling little Havanese. In the Bichon family, lots of breed information is below.

These pups just arrived. Just babies and just darling… Not yet housetrained – too young. At this age, it is up to you to take your pup out and help him or her learn to be the best puppies ever. With pups this size, we recommend an indoor option – piddle pads or a Potty Patch.

These pups are not Spay/neutered. We don’t do juvenile spay/neuter on babies this young and small. With our contract, you agree to have your pup altered before he or she is 6 month old. Our pups have had all of their shots to date and, like all young pups, they require continuing vaccinations until they are 14 -16 weeks old. We can microchip for $10. Pups are wormed every two weeks.

Information on delivery options is below. “About the breed” is at the bottom of the page. We are at PetSmart in Chesterfield, MO every Saturday from 11:00 to 5:00.

Adoption Fees and Payment Plans: We take credit cards and payments. As with all of our adoptions, we know it is hard to get married on a blind date... even to a wonderful pup. We will take our dog back during the first month and refund your adoption fee less $50. To hold a pup, we ask for a $50 non-refundable deposit.

Delivery and shipping: We bring dogs to Chesterfield every Saturday. For other locations, we will attempt to arrange a meeting. Airfare for pups and small dogs is $250 – crate and pre-fight exam included.

About the breed: Havanese are natural companion dogs: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. Very affectionate and playful with a high degree of intelligence. These cheerful dogs are very sociable and will get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. They are easy to obedience train and get along well with other dogs. This curious dog loves to observe what is going on. They are sensitive to the tone of one's voice and will not listen if they sense that they are stronger minded than their owner, however they will also not respond well to harsh discipline. Owners need to be calm, yet possess an air of natural authority. The Havanese have a long reputation of being circus dogs, probably because it learns quickly and enjoys doing things for people. Few tend to bark a lot, as they can be taught not to do this. It is not their nature to bark a lot.

Bichon Havanese originated in Cuba from an earlier breed known as Blanquito de la Habana (also called Havanese Silk Dog - a now extinct breed) The Bichon Havanese adorned and enlivened the homes of aristocratic Cubans during the the 18th & 19th centuries. Bichon Lapdogs were being brought to Cuba in 17th century from Europe, they adapted to climate and customs of Cuba. Eventually, these conditions gave birth to a different dog, smaller than its predecessors, with a completely white coat of a silkier texture. This dog was the Blanquito de la Habana. In the 19th century, the Cubans took to liking the French and German Poodles, which were crossed with the existing Blanquito to create today's Bichon Havanese. In the development of the Havanese, the Blanquito was much more dominant than the poodle.

The Shih-Tzu is an alert and spunky little dog. Happy and hardy, endowed with loads of character, they are royally dignified, courageous and sometimes arrogant. This breed does well with polite, considerate children. The gentle, loyal Shih-Tzu makes friends easily and, although obstinate, they respond well to training. A very alert watch dog, the Shih-Tzu likes to bark, but is quiet inside the house. Clever, stubborn, playful and lively, this affectionate little dog needs to be with people.

The Shih Tzu is a dignified, lively, alert, happy, sweet and playful. He craves your companionship and just wants to be with you. He's very affectionate and loves to cuddle and kiss and sit on your lap. He may be sweet, but he knows how to stand up for himself if confronted. He's friendly and sociable with strangers. He doesn't need much exercise and will get most of it just running around inside. He's one of the most popular dogs in the United States.
