About Our Rescue Group...
I have rescued nurse mare foals since 2000. The nurse mare industry is based primarily in KY. The mares are bred for milk production only, the mare is then rented to an expensive TB race foal. The mare's original foal is a byproduct and is starved, left to die or taken to auction at just a couple days old. This is an industry with thousands of foals needing rescue every year. We have started an HIL(hormone induced lactation) program which brings mares into milk with hormones, thus preventing the unwanted foal and still allowing adequate milk production for the race foal. We have been promoting this for 2 yrs and this will be our main focus in the future so we are not only rescueing these babies but trying to stop them from even being born, preventing thousands of unwanted horses.
