About Our Rescue Group...
I have rescued nurse mare foals since 2000. The nurse mare industry is based primarily in KY. The mares are bred for milk production only, the mare is then rented to an expensive TB race foal. The mare's original foal is a byproduct and is starved, left to die or taken to auction at just a couple days old. This is an industry with thousands of foals needing rescue every year. We have started an HIL(hormone induced lactation) program which brings mares into milk with hormones, thus preventing the unwanted foal and still allowing adequate milk production for the race foal. We have been promoting this for 2 yrs and this will be our main focus in the future so we are not only rescueing these babies but trying to stop them from even being born, preventing thousands of unwanted horses.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Aries, a York Standardbred was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Standardbred for sale in York, or seeking a Standardbred from a breeder in York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Standardbred breeders who help with Standardbred rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in York paves the way for another one to be saved.
