Nova's Info...
| Species: | Chinchilla | Color: | Silver Or Gray | Age: | Adult |
| Sex: | Female | Hair: | Unknown |
Nova was brought to our rescue with 2 boys, and was very, very pregnant! After a couple of weeks she had 2 healthy babies- a boy who has been adopted, and her daughter Popper, who will be staying with her. Both chinchillas are calm and used to being handled, and are okay around cats. Like most chinchillas, they are not good for holding by small children, but may be good for older, calm children who would be happy with a chinchilla that they can interact with, but not necessarily cuddle for long periods of time.
Rescue Group Info...
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue was started because the exotic pet trade in our country is busier than ever before. With the availability of these animals, many people impulse-purchase them, not realizing the commitment they are making. It gets overwhelming for some, and others didn’t quite realize the financial commitment or time commitment. Some people just lose interest, or their lifestyle changes and the pet does not fit in anymore. There are not many resources for people with exotic pets, and we aim to provide that for chinchilla owners.
We also realize great pet owners are made- not born that way, and each one of our adopters will have access to help, suggestions and any support they may need in the future.
All of our chinchillas are in private foster home, so we do not allow the general public to see the chinchillas without first filling out the adoption application. Once an adopter is approved, we will be happy to set up a private meeting so you can meet any chinchillas you are interested in adopting.
Unlike some rescues, we do not require a home inspection. We do require that you are prepared to agree to some basic expectations, including providing a proper cage, veterinary care from an exotic specialist, air conditioning, and a clean, quiet, smoke-free environment.
There is an adoption application available for download on our web site, and there is a $100 adoption fee per chinchilla. After filling out an application, one of our volunteers will speak with you for more information.
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue is located in Suffolk
County, on Long Island, NY, and will serve most of
Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Bronx
and Queens. We have also had adopters from new Jersey and Connecticut, and are open to other areas as well.
