My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 10/12/12!!!
Bonded Pair

Purebred Golden Retrievers, Ben and Logan, are incredibly bonded to one another. They have been together for years and while, they are losing their human family, SGRR has vowed to place these fellows together. Ben & Logan’s mom & dad divorced recently. While she has tried her best, their mom has found she cannot properly care for these boys and her 3 young children. As hard as it is for her to re-home her beloved pals, she knows it is best for the boys.

Ben is 6 years old and weighs about 75 pounds. He has been with his current mom since he was 8 weeks old when he came to her from a breeder in Kansas. He is great in the car and is a dream to walk on his leash. He is good with other dogs, especially his canine brother, but he does not like to share his toys. Ben is good with children and has grown up with the family’s kids. His mom describes him as an “easy dog.” He is house-trained and trustworthy in the house.

Cream-colored Logan is 4 years old and weighs in at approximately 80 pounds. Logan has also been with his current family since he arrived from Europe as a puppy. Don’t worry, he “woofs” in English fluently now! Like his brother, Logan is great with kids and loves to ride in the car. He enjoys his walks and is good on a leash. Logan is house-trained, trustworthy in the house, and is great with other dogs too! His mom said he is like a puppy in a big dog body!

Despite eating a grain-free and healthy diet, both boys have gained a bit of weight recently as they are not exercised as often as they should be. Their family lives in the city where they are leash walked but do not get to run and play in a fenced yard. While these fellows would enjoy a good romp in the yard, they are true house pets and relish human companionship. They met our SGRR volunteers with wagging tails and a play-with-me attitude!

In true Golden spirit, these fellows have a wonderful sense of humor. Their mom shared a story about the boys with us that will bring a smile to your heart. “They are so funny - last night they took all of their toys into the living room one by one. Now mind you, they are not allowed to play in the living room! They were trying to expand their territory by moving their toys in there... and they just sat there looking at me as if they were asking for permission. It was so comical and they were quite proud. It was amusing to watch them – it was like they were communicating and their plan was unfolding! Such teamwork! They are wicked smart!”

Their mom also told us, “They have been involved in family life all of their lives. They go on vacation with us, shopping, etc., etc. They need that human stimulation. They need time and activity everyday. They need that human contact; they need conversations; they need affection. I hope you know what I mean and you can find them the home that they so deserve.”

Ben & Logan’s mom has taken the boys to the vet, so they are all up-to-date on their vaccinations and preventatives. This dynamic duo is ready to go to their forever home. Apply now, as this handsome pair will not last!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
