Bailey's Story...
Meet Bailey! He is a 4 year old , yellow lab mix who was born on 01-10-08. He was adopted by a local couple via the AHS at the age of 8 weeks.
Bailey quickly bonded with the female in the family who often took him running. He has become available for re-homing due to the female's untimely death. Since her passing, neighbors have occasionally taken him on runs, but he needs significant daily exercise that his human dad simply can't provide.
Bailey is a high-energy, smart, friendly and loyal dog. He is a fantastic watch dog, and easily trained using positive reinforcement.
Since his adoption as a puppy, Bailey has been in a loving and secure home alongside a very sweet female black lab. Bailey and the other dog have an excellent relationship.
Bailey has had no medical issues since he was a pup. He will be up-to-date on all vaccinations as of 9/7/2012. Although he cannot be adopted before 9/7, he can meet with potential adoptive families.
Bailey is good with women, men and other dogs. Cats - unknown. Children - unknown.
He would be an outstanding dog for an active person (mountain biker, hiker or runner), or for a family who lives on a large piece of property with lots of room for Bailey to run and play.
If you would like to meet this wonderful , happy boy, please fill out a statement of interest at www.alternativehumanesociety.com (under the ADOPT tab).

Come Meet Our Pets...
We can be found showing off our loveable dogs at Petco on Bakerview and Guide Meridian in Bellingham on the 1st and 2nd weekend of each month. We also hold an adopt-a-thon the third Saturday of every month at Pet Palace, also on the Guide Meridian in Bellingham. All our showings are between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Come on out and say hi!
Our Adoption Process...
AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 2-3 days, but since many of our volunteers also work at full-time jobs, the entire process can take longer. Although we try our very best we usually will not be able to contact every person who submits a Statement of Interest, we reserve our limited resources for those who look like a good match.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs under 18 months – $170
Dogs over 18 months – $145
Senior dogs (older than 8 years) – $95

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Custer, Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Sumas, Maple Falls, Kendall, Whatcom County, Skagit County

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bailey, a Bellingham Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Bellingham, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Bellingham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bellingham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bellingham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bellingham paves the way for another one to be saved.
