My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Gizmo, I’m a Yellow Nape Amazon, and this is my best buddy Mango, a handsome Sun Conure. We are both 13 years young, the vet thinks we’re male. We have been together since we were babies, so we’ll need to be adopted together. We prefer a female human or two who will love us as much as our former humans did. We grew up with a young person in the house, but I am terrified of men. When I was little, I was force fed by a man, and it brings back bad memories for me when they are around. We are very sweet and good natured, but we may nip at first until we know you. Like most birds, we are noisy in the morning and before the sun sets. I say Hi, Hello, Uh-oh and I have a cute little old lady laugh. I can also sing songs from old TV shows, but I haven’t shared that talent with my foster mom yet. Growing up, we had lots of cat and dog siblings, and I have picked up meowing and barking. Foster mom thinks I sound more like a pirates parrot saying ‘Aaarrrr,’ but I’m really growling. Mango doesn’t talk much, just peeps a lot. I am more of a chatterbox and can get loud at times, so I hope you’re neighbors aren’t too close.

We are used to being out of our cages all day. Once Mango warms up to you, he loves to cuddle, play with your hair or necklaces, and just snuggle. We love toys and going outside onto the screened porch. We like to see what you are doing so we can help, too! Sometimes when no one pays attention to me, I will chew things that don’t belong to me. Our current home has lots of birds and are very excited when they talk to us from the other side of the house. We have always been on excellent diets including pellets, all kinds of fruits, veggies, nuts, and will delight in whatever you give us to eat—we LOVE food! I have to go on a little diet, as I’m kind of chubby, but I am very active and social, and I know we would both love a forever home that has some other birdies (or dogs or cats) we can talk to, in addition to our humans. Please give us a chance- we have many years ahead of us and would love to be a part of your loving family!
