Walter's Story...
UPDATE FROM A VOLUNTEER WHO SPENT A GOOD DAY WITH WALTER. We picked him up in the morning, took him for a walk. We met three other Kingsmark dogs at Peak View park, Walter got along fine with all of them. We brought him home to meet our two dogs (one old, one young) and he did great with both of them. He played and was friendly. We brushed him a lot, he is really throwing his coat. We noticed he is very thin and was happy to take cookies and dry food. He sits for treats and is very gentle. He really walks great on leash and seems to be basically trained. He is afraid of thunder. We took him to the vet and she gave him a very good exam. He is current on all his shots. He is a great, sweet dog that gets along well with humans, other dogs, and he is great in the house. We don't see any form of aggression. He seems really mellow. We will be happy to get him out and about with his "Adopt Me" vest on so he can find the great forever home he deserves. ------------------------- Walter is a tall, thin, gentle boy. He gets along well with other dogs. He is definitely not good with cats. He needs to be in a home with children over 10 years old as we don't know his history with kids. He was at Coconino Humane for a long time and was taken there by his owner. Perhaps because of this, he is concerned when you leave that you may not come back. His previous owner said that he had been an outdoor dog & that he needed a lot of room to run. I think he just wants to be with people. He is a bit of a velcro dog - always wanting to be right with you. He was an outdoor dog & is bright enough to open simple gates. He needs a patient family to work with him. In time he will realize that Yes someone will return and he will never be left like that again. An active family will appreciate Walter's company. He loves to walk and is a good hiker as well. He recently climbed Mt. Humphreys, so he has been at the highest point in Arizona. It is about a 9 mile hike & the elevation change is 3,143 ft. He is a great in- and outdoor companion.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Walter, a Scottsdale Newfoundland dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Newfoundland for sale in Scottsdale, or seeking a Newfoundland dog from a breeder in Scottsdale.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Scottsdale already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Scottsdale breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Newfoundland breeders who help with Newfoundland rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Scottsdale paves the way for another one to be saved.
