My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In the movie, Rocky was a brave guy who fought back against overwhelming odds. Well our Rocky is very much the same. He came to MWCR from a hoarding situation where attention, food, and grooming were all in short supply. His beautiful coat was so horribly matted that he could barely lift his head, and it was necessary to shave him down in most places. His foster family was able to save some fur along his spine, so right now he looks a little like the Collie version of a Rhodesian Ridgeback; but fur grows quickly and before the really cold weather hits, he will be a handsome, Collie boy again. In fact, his coat has already grown out enough to show that he will soon have lovely markings and a beautiful, full, white ruff.

In spite of his tough start in life, Rocky is a loving, affectionate boy who just gobbles up attention. He is shy with new people and new situations, but once he gets to know you, he is very cuddly. He likes both cats and other dogs and has not shown any food aggression. However, he prefers to eat alone, without any canine companions, probably because in the past dinner time meant every dog for himself. Once mealtime is over, he loves to play with the other dogs at his foster home. He is also fine with older children, but is not so good with very young kids.

Rocky is good about going into his kennel as long as there is a treat involved. His foster family kennels him when they are gone during the day, and he does not have any accidents. He is 99% house trained on a schedule, but he is gradually learning how to signal his desire for a potty break by panting. He walks very nicely on his leash, though he tends to keep his head low, probably a leftover habit from when his fur was so matted that he could hardly lift it.

Rocky is a gentle, loving boy who will fit nicely into any family that is willing to give him a little time to settle in and get comfortable. He would love to have older children or another doggie companion to play with, but he would also be happy as an only dog, soaking up all the love and attention that his family has to offer him. A fenced yard is preferable, but not mandatory in the right situation. Like the original Rocky, this sweet boy has weathered the tough times and is now ready for his very own happy ending.
