Pumpkin's Story...
Pumpkin is a purebred pekingese that lost her home when her mommy died and the family no longer wanted her. Instead they dropped her at a high kill shleter!! Pumpkin is about 8 yrs old and some time ago had to have an eye removed, we have no idea what happened but she does just fine with her remaining eye. Because of this we would place her with older kids only as toddlers may startle her coming up from her blind side. Pumpkin would make the perfect companion for someone who is just lonely and looking for a lap dog and best friend. She is slow to come around to new people and dogs but not for long. She does not like bigger dogs, I think she just feels too vulnerable around them since she is small and at a disadvantage with only one eye. She will just sit and bark at them. She could definitley live with cats but should be introduced properly. Pumpkin is a sweet girl that deserves a loving home like she used to have to live out the remainder of her years - which could be another 8 or more with lots of TLC.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pumpkin, a Portsmouth Pekingese dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pekingese for sale in Portsmouth, or seeking a Pekingese dog from a breeder in Portsmouth.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portsmouth already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portsmouth breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pekingese breeders who help with Pekingese rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portsmouth paves the way for another one to be saved.
