Toby's Story...
We have 2 awesome cats available for adoption. "Toby" and "Scamp" are very friendly and sweet. They get along with other cats well and although they came from an outdoor home, they have acclimated to living indoors very well.

These boys are approximately 10 years old and they are brothers. They were both already neutered when they came to us. Both boys had their teeth cleaned 2 weeks ago. They have been treated with Frontline, vaccinated for Rabies and distemper and dewormed.

Both these gentlemen tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV is transmitted through DEEP bite wounds, not play bites, and is most commonly found in non-neutered male cats who are outdoors and fighting with eachother. "Toby" and "Scamp" probably acquired FIV when they were younger and before they were neutered. Since they are both very mild-mannered and don't even play bite, transmission of the virus to other cats would be very rare, maybe unless they came into contact with an intact male cat who instigated a fight. They both live with other cats now and do just fine with them. I have worked as a veterinary professional for 12 years and I honestly have not a hint of worry about them transmitting the virus to another cat.

I actually have two FIV positive cats of my own who are very healthy and doing just fine. They live with other cats and have not transmitted the virus. This link provides more detailed information about the virus:

Please consider adopting this pair, it's not their fault they have FIV! They can be housed indoors, with other pets or just the two of them, or they can be garage cats, horse barn cats, indoor/outdoor cats, etc.

While we have about $50 into each cat for the veterinary care we did for them, we would be happy to find them a decent home to live their lives out, with or without a donation for adoption. If you are able to make a donation, that is wonderful and helpful, and if you are not able, so be it. Their happiness is what matters. They will go to their new home with their medical records.

Please feel free to contact us for more information or to meet/adopt these guys! They are being fostered in Cottage Grove but can travel to Oregon to meet potential adopters! (Oregon and Cottage Grove are both about 10-15 minutes from Madison)

Thank you!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Toby, a Madison Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Madison, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Madison.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Madison already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Madison breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Madison paves the way for another one to be saved.
