Shelby, Courtesy Post's Story...
Shelby is a beautiful 4 year old Akita with a sweet temperament. She has been outside in a kennel run the majority of her life, but now that is she getting regular attention, she has no desire to go back to the kennel life.

When first relinquished to us, due to financial hard times of her owners, Shelby enjoyed going for walks several times a day with her caretakers at the kennel and did very nicely on a leash. Shelby has been very good with everyone she has met so far. She will be moved to a foster home with other big dogs soon.

UPDATE: Shelby has now been spayed and is UTD on vaccinations. Shelby has also been moved to a foster home. Her foster family says he is doing very well with both foster mom and dad and their own dogs. She is just an overall sweet dog. AND she is housetrained! Proof that outside dogs do well when moved inside a responsible loving home.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Shelby, Courtesy Post, a Toms River Akita dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Akita for sale in Toms River, or seeking a Akita dog from a breeder in Toms River.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Toms River already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Toms River breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Akita breeders who help with Akita rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Toms River paves the way for another one to be saved.
