Sugar's Story...
Sweetie is a very cute, sweet cat although she will be very shy at first with good reason. When she was young and pregnant her owners put her out to fend for herself. We took her in (not knowing she had just given birth) and got her spayed, tested for feline leukemia and FIV and vaccinated. They told us she had recently given birth, so we had to put her back out to go back to her kittens. Unfortunately, the kittens never did show up, so after having to live another couple months on the streets, we took her back in. She wasn't real thrilled at first being around other cats but she did get use to them but would probably prefer to be any only child. She really is a very lovable cat if you give her a chance!

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
Castaway Cats is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit cat rescue based in Bear, DE, comprised entirely of volunteers. We do not have a shelter and all of our cats are in foster homes. This rescue was started in 1992 in an effort to help the homeless and feral cats in our area. Each cat we rescue is spayed/neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and AIDS, vaccinated with FVCRP and rabies shots, de-wormed and de-fleaed. Because all our cats are spayed or neutered before adoption, we do not adopt out kittens under the age of 12 weeks.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sugar, a Bear Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Bear, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Bear.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bear already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bear breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bear paves the way for another one to be saved.
