I am already spayed, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs.
My name is Mercedes!
I have kind of a long story about my life.. but, I will try to keep it as short as I can...
I was born in November '06.. I'm an AKC papered, American Pit Bull Terrier.. my owner bought me as a puppy.. she had me spayed, I'm heartworm negative. My mom ended up living with a very bad man who severely beat me.. I took a lot of abuse.. but, never used my teeth to try to defend myself...
My mom had a baby with this terrible man.. the last time I got to see her was when she was 2 yrs. old... My mom couldn't take it anymore and she left.. the bad man left too.. this was a great thing.. or so I thought.. even though the abuse stopped.. I found myself all alone..
When my mom's dad (my "grandpa") found out I was abandoned, he came and took me to his house.. it felt soooo good to be loved again.. and to be treated kindly by a man.. I grew very close to Grandpa Keith.. went everywhere with him.. I was his girl.. until some more bad news came my way.. his landlord wouldn't let him keep me.. no pits allowed!!
Grandpa Keith was devastated.. as was I .. he had to face losing his home or letting me go....... that's how and why I ended up at Levy County Animal Services before Ms. Jody came to see me with Grandpa Keith, so Ms. Jody could see what a good girl I am when I'm not scared...
So, now I'm in foster care with Ms. Jody in the Alachua/Marion County area and I'm ready for a wonderful home. I've had a medical exam, fecal, and deworming... I walk well on a leash (just a little strong at times) and am house and crate trained... I have been around a 2 yr. old, livestock, and other dogs... Please watch my video and call Ms. Jody to set up an appointment to meet me! Her number is 352-316-5155 or email her at HeflinJ@bellsouth.net. Thank you!

Rescue Group Info...
Second Chance Rescue is headquartered in Bunnell, Florida. The Western Region covers a rural area in the Gainesville/Ocala area with a network of volunteers and foster homes. We rescue from Levy County Animal Services.
(Most of our foster homes do not have cats or small children - so we don't always know whether a dog is "good with children" or "good with cats" but we're happy to discuss what we know about each dog's personality!)
Most of our adoptions are done following a telephone conversation, application and play date/home visit. We do limited adoption events at Tractor Supply in Jonesville (Newberry Road, west of Gainesville). If you are interested in a particular dog, give us a call today!
Each adoption has an application process, home visit, contract, and adoption donation.
