Amber came to Safe Harbor as a stray in March of 2011. Despite a rough start on the streets, she is such a happy little lady as evidenced by her constant tail wagging. Amber walks well on a leash and even loves to stop and smell the roses along the way. She enjoys the company of people and a good game of fetch. Amber is approximately two and a half years old and gets along well with other dogs

About Our Shelter...
Safe Harbor was founded in 1985 and was the second humane organization in the state of Florida to open a low-cost spay / neuter hospital. With between 7-10 million animals a year being killed in our nation’s shelters, Safe Harbor’s mission first and foremost has always been to reduce the over population of unwanted pets in our community. We do not believe that euthanasia is the answer to dealing with the pet over population crisis. Our charitable hospital offers low-cost spay / neuter services and medical assistance for everyone and free services for pet owners who are on disability, social security or who are experiencing financial hardships. We have sterilized over 75,000 animals over the past 24 years, preventing hundreds of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born and thousands more from being needlessly destroyed. Safe Harbor has never turned an animal in need of medical care due to their owner’s inability to pay.

A few years after establishing the charitable hospital, Safe Harbor opened one of the only true no-kill shelters in South Florida. The shelter reserves it’s space for animals who have been abused, neglected, injured and abandoned. No breed is discriminated against, any animal in need is given shelter at Safe Harbor. We are a charity surviving on donations alone, and our capacity is limited. For the welfare of the resident animals, we cannot exceed our capacity. Cages are not vacated by routine euthanasia. They become available only through adoption.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Amber, a Jupiter Pit Bull Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pit Bull Terrier for sale in Jupiter, or seeking a Pit Bull Terrier dog from a breeder in Jupiter.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Jupiter already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Jupiter breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pit Bull Terrier breeders who help with Pit Bull Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Jupiter paves the way for another one to be saved.
