My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beautiful, energetic, affectionate brunette looking for a loving home
Hi there. My name is Kaitlyn, given to me by the kind lady that found me wandering around a town in southern Alberta and brought me to Calgary. I was told I had beautiful eyes, and even though I had hardly any hair left on my body and was covered in sores and smelled pretty bad, it made me feel so good that someone saw something beautiful about me. My foster mom calls me Katie, and when she calls me, I come every time.

I have gotten to know the vets really well. They’ve been trying to figure out what’s causing my skin problems. It turns out I have some bad allergies and I have to take medicine every day to control it. And my foster mom gives me lots of baths with special shampoos from the vet—I pretend I don’t like it, but I sure feel better after. Now that a lot of my hair has grown back, I have a shiny, beautiful coat that all the other humans at the park compliment me on.
Foster mom says I’m really smart because I know to do my job outside, travel really well in the car, can sit and shake paws and am learning to wait and stop. She says it’s nice too that I hardly ever bark, well, unless I see other dogs out for a walk and I’m stuck in the yard. But I haven’t quite figured out how to calm down at the door before our walks—I just get sooooo happy I have to jump and kind of knock things over…oops.

I love food (but have to watch my diet), long walks along the beach (or anywhere), chasing butterflies, swimming, playing, other dogs (and even cats), and getting lots of cuddles and belly scratches. When mom takes me to the park to run, that is the happiest part of my day. Until we get home and I snuggle up on the couch and that’s the happiest time of the day. And when I see her pick up my food dish and hear the wondrous sound of kibble falling into the dish, I am very, very happy. The truth is I love just about anything I get to do with my human. But I don’t like being left alone very much. Don’t be surprised if you leave me alone for a long time I will get your dirty laundry out to remind me of your scent, surf your counters and eat anything in reach, and get into other things when I get bored.

A note from my foster mom: Katie would do well in an active household as she is higher energy and loves to run and play. She would not be the best fit with smaller children as she can easily be over stimulated and could knock them over when she’s excited. When she’s relaxed she can be quite sedentary though and enjoys cuddling. She will need to be under a vet’s care for the long term because of her severe allergies.
