Darby's Story...
DARBY is a red heeler mix, around 40 lbs. and a little over a year old. She came to us as a stray from Corydon, Iowa, where there is no animal shelter. Darby can be shy and uncertain around strangers, but once she knows you, she is a sweetie. She enjoys the company of other dogs and is now in a Dogs Forever foster home where she enjoys playing with two resident Great Danes. She will benefit from a strong "pack leader" in her adoptive home. She needs a home without children. Darby's adoption fee is on a sliding scale of $100-$150; you choose the amount that is right for you.

About Our Shelter...
Dogs Forever Safe Place provides refuge for homeless dogs, where they receive loving care, free of fear and free of the threat of being euthanized. This is their sanctuary until Dogs Forever places them with a reputable rescue, a no-kill shelter or a forever family.

The dogs at Safe Place come from kill shelters where they were at risk of being euthanized and from Iowa counties that have no animal shelter.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Darby, a Cedar Rapids Australian Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Cedar Rapids, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Cedar Rapids.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Cedar Rapids already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Cedar Rapids breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Cedar Rapids paves the way for another one to be saved.
