Bear is a hound mix mutt. We aren’t exactly sure what he is mixed with (maybe retriever?) but we do love mutts! When Bear was found alone he ended up in a hospital without an adoption program. He suffered from some trauma to his eye and we were unable to save it. Having one eye doesn’t seem to affect his ability to play, play, play…
Bear is only about a year old (Oct. 2012) and weighed 60 pounds when he came to us in August.
Bear is now in a foster home in Providence, RI where he gets to play with his foster canine sister Bella (an Underdog alumni). They get along great! Bear loves to play fetch and is not a big fan of the water. He also loves to go for walks and car rides, and is very friendly with other dogs, cats and people.
He does not have a prey drive, thank god, since Bella sometimes does, and has learned about invisible fences, since the foster home has one.
He has slimmed down a bit and it quite agile for his size and lack of depth perception. He can clear a 3 foot tall baby gate without a problem!!!
He is best suited for a family with middle aged children who like to play, or a younger retired couple, in layman's terms someone who can spend a fair amount of time with him would be wonderful, as he absolutely LOVES hugs, kisses, and attention from people and would be happy with or without other pets in the home. He needs a decent amount of exercise and mental stimulation too so that’s where having lots of company helps him out.
