Zara's Story...
Update 8/01/12: Zara came into BDRA and has been fostered here since February 2011. Estimated age is 6 or 7.

She is a very sweet gentle girl who likes to sleep in her crate with the door open. That is her bed. She picked that place for her own.

Zara has had two clusters of seizures since she has been here. First time was the last week of April 2011.
The second time was the last week of August 2011 and that was the last time. Her seizures are now managed with Potassium Bromide 30 mg. taken every 12 hours. She does sleep a lot during the day, but enjoys going next door to get her treats with the rest of the dogs in her foster home. She gets along well with all the pets in her foster home, dogs and cats. She is just a very sweet gentle girl.

Zara is a good little eater. Not at all picky. Eats very gently and slowly. She usually eats her food in her crate. I have to be sure she has a place to eat where she can take her time and where no one else can take her food. She will let them eat her food while she is in her crate eating.

She does go for short walks on leash and seems to enjoy that.

Of course a home with a fenced yare would be best for Zara. She does very well with her blindness. She knows her name ears perk up when she hears it.

Only other thing is that possibly due to the seizures, possibly before ever coming into rescue, she does seem to have a bit of neurological damage. She often doesn’t get right up in the morning but will eat her breakfast and then I many need to get her up out of her crate. She will stretch and stretch and then go out to do her business.

Anyone who might want to consider adopting Zara, she is just the sweetest little girl ever and is always happy to have a belly rub or her ears rubbed. In the evening she always comes to get her hug time from foster mom.

2/01/12: What I know so far is that Zara is a most gentle polite little girl. She is sweet and gentle and she does seem to sleep a lot. When outside she tends to kind of run in big circles. More to come on Zara.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Zara, a Wilmington Brittany dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Brittany for sale in Wilmington, or seeking a Brittany dog from a breeder in Wilmington.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Wilmington already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Wilmington breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Brittany breeders who help with Brittany rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Wilmington paves the way for another one to be saved.
