UPDATE: November 2, 2012 –
Lena is one smart cookie. She has quickly settled into her foster, learning the rules of the house and how to get along with the other dogs. Her initial resource guarding has completely disappeared now that she knows there is always plenty of food for everyone, and she will happily enjoy her chew bone in the company of her canine companions. She is also learning a number of commands including “come,” “off” and “enough,” and her foster mom describes her house training as 100%. She has even learned to control her tongue that was previously described as a "weapon of mass destruction" by her foster mom.

Lena loves to go for walks and now that her foster mom is using a gentle leader, the experience is an enjoyable one for everyone. She also enjoys playing ball with either humans or other dogs. Her recall is good, but she definitely needs a fenced yard in which to run and burn off energy.

Lena loves attention and she knows how to get it. When there is some lovin' to be had, she is always the first dog in line, even if that means pushing a few of her fellow doggies out of the way. Her foster mom has even taught her the “no kisses” command to stop her from lavishing everyone she meets with a little too much love.

Lena is ready for her forever home and can't wait to find a family that is looking for a super smart, super loving, best friend. She would be a great candidate for obedience training, fly ball, agility or even a “scent” class (since she also knows how to use her nose). Lena is up for any challenge!

We don't know where Sven and Ole are, but Lena is with MWCR! This joyful, fun-loving, Collie mix has a Scandinavian name and a heritage that probably includes a combination of Collie, Aussie and perhaps Shepherd. She came to us from owners who had accumulated more dogs than they could care for, so she is used to living with other dogs, but until she arrived at her foster home, she had never lived indoors. She learns quickly, however, and has adapted well to the indoor lifestyle. She has had only one accident and now knows how to signal her foster mom when she needs to go outside for a call of nature. She is fully crate trained and though she will whimper for a few minutes, she soon settles down. Everything in the house is new to Lena and because she is a curious and adventuresome girl, her foster mom usually crates her when she goes out and at night.

Lena is a happy, playful girl who loves attention. Her foster mom says that her tongue could be considered a “weapon of mass destruction” since she will cheerfully smother everyone she meets with a barrage of kisses. She is great with humans of all ages, but because she is a strong, exuberant, young dog, she might be intimidating to toddlers. She is learning that she shouldn't jump up on people, but is still a work in progress and will need her forever family to continue her training.

Lena loves playing with other dogs and gets along well with canines of all sizes and shapes. She does some “resource guarding” with other dogs, but not with humans. Her foster mom believes that in the past she was fed in “winner take all” situation and is still learning that there will always be plenty to go around.

Lena's foster home does not include cats, but her foster mom believes that her rowdy style of play would not make her a good companion for kitties or small animals such as bunnies, guinea pigs, etc. She is fine with small dogs, however.

Lena is a clever, eager to please girl who has quickly learned what it means to be part of a family. She knows her name, is gradually learning to control the enthusiasm that leads her to jump up on the people she loves i.e. everyone. She enjoys being brushed and doesn't mind other forms of grooming as long as they don't require her to sit still for too long a time. She rides well in the car, though it takes a few minutes for her to settle down. She really enjoys her chew toys and does not chew inappropriately when she has them. She is a fairly quiet girl though she will bark at the neighbor's tractor when outdoors and will give a few happy woofs while indoors with her family.

Lena will make a wonderful addition to almost any family. She must have a securely fenced yard in which to run, play and exercise her puppy-like nature. She would love to have children or another active dog to play with, but she would also do well with an individual or couple who live an active lifestyle and would include her in their activities. This happy, loving girl will bring joy to your life and a smile to your lips every single day.
