Jake's Story...
Jake is an approximately 1 to 1 1/2 year old shepherd, hound cross, extremely sweet and just wants to be by your side all of the time. He is very good with other dogs and kids. Jake is a very intelligent guy and learns fast. He is neutered, house broken and up to date on all of his shots. Jake is a dog who wants your attention all of the time, he was a stray picked up by the Sedro Woolley police Dept. Jake is good with commands but being a hound (and a puppy) he will chase cats or rabbits or chickens that run. Jake likes everyone but seems to like men more. Jake needs a lot of exercise and training. if you would like to meet Jake, please fill out a statement of interest form @ www.alternativehumanesociety.com (under the ADOPT menu).

• To advocate for the humane treatment of dogs and cats in all areas of life

Come Meet Our Pets...
We can be found showing off our loveable dogs at Petco on Bakerview and Guide Meridian in Bellingham on the 1st and 2nd weekend of each month. We also hold an adopt-a-thon the third Saturday of every month at Pet Palace, also on the Guide Meridian in Bellingham. All our showings are between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Come on out and say hi!
Our Adoption Process...
AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 2-3 days, but since many of our volunteers also work at full-time jobs, the entire process can take longer. Although we try our very best we usually will not be able to contact every person who submits a Statement of Interest, we reserve our limited resources for those who look like a good match.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs under 18 months – $170
Dogs over 18 months – $145
Senior dogs (older than 8 years) – $95

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Custer, Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Sumas, Maple Falls, Kendall, Whatcom County, Skagit County

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jake, a Bellingham Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Bellingham, or seeking a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Bellingham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bellingham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bellingham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bellingham paves the way for another one to be saved.
