Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"OLIVER" is a 3 year old (10/16/2008) cream, neutered, small Standard Poodle at 23" tall (floor to shoulder height) and weighs 45 pounds.
This is one EXTREMELY NICE, deeply loved, happy Standard Poodle boy! He has the curiosity of a cat, willing to please and has perfect manners in our home with never an accident.
He is very smart (knows a few tricks), active, out-going, sociable, loves the attention of older children, adults and THRIVES on attention! Will work for food too! What a perfect Poodle for the right family.
Preference will be given to a family with previous Standard Poodle experience and a fenced yard as this boy loves to go for walks and enjoys a good run. OBEDIENCE training will be strongly suggested.
Also, Oliver has been the only Poodle (dog) with his previous family. He tolerates our other Poodles, but prefers to be with HIS people. He is not looking for another dog friend but a family to love him!
ABSOLUTELY NO small dogs or cats as Oliver thinks they're something to chase and chew on.
No children under 7 years of age as Oliver likes to rub against people, so he could easily push a small child down or run them over without realizing he did anything wrong.
Oliver was surrendered to us from a good family with children who deeply loved this Poodle. When they moved into a newly purchased home, Oliver found and ate the rat poison which was left behind by the previous owner.
Sadly, the family could not afford that huge expense. WE DID OFFER to pay for most of his Vet bill, but the family chose to surrender their Poodle to us. They realized they could no longer care for him and all the expenses involved with owing a dog.
Yes, doing the right thing is never easy, but it is the right thing to do.
Oliver is doing fine! We have done extensive testing that shows everything is "normal"! He's probably healthier than you or me!
He has been neutered, shots are now up-to-date, his teeth were cleaned, heartworm checked negative, wormed and micro-chipped. However, "Oliver" was found to be "Lymes" positive, but is curable with a month supply of anti-biotics. Lymes is transmitted by a tick bite. YES! He will be just fine.
FROM OLIVER'S FOSTER HOME: With the right home, he'll develop into a fantastic companion dog! As you already know, his new owners should be young enough that they can train and play with him. He should also go to a one dog family. No extras.
He is learning to play here. I don't want to push it too much with the recent neutering. He hasn't learned the concept of going out to fetch and bring something back. Great at "keep away and some zoomies." Once trained, he'd be great at agility. Obedience is a prerequisite for him. He has only one speed--fast. Might be a good retriever as a bird dog. Right now he just wants to catch, not fetch.
He's a great watch dog. A burglar would never make it to the door before he does. He is leery of strangers and doesn't accept them right away, but isn't aggressive about it. Mainly barking and then he will quiet down.
To the right family, Oliver's adoption fee of $500.00 includes all his vet work, a wire kennel, some toys, a bag of food along, leash collar and all of his Vet records. Please be aware that we have close to $1,200.00 in tests done (to make sure all organs are working correctly) and Vet expenses for Oliver. We are still in need of donations to help us pay for all of his expenses.
Please contact me if you have any other questions or if you would like Oliver's "Application For Adoption".
