JEB's Story...
Jeb really needs a family to uplift his spirits. This sweet old guy has just returned from foster care and is heartbroken to be back in the shelter. Jeb was in foster care while recovering from a broken leg after being hit by a car and was found trying to make it all on his own. Jeb is a handsome gentlemen who really thrived in his foster home environment of several other senior cats and one adult. It would be such a wonderful feeling to find Jeb a similar type of quiet home where he can mingle about freely and comfortably with his confident self. Jeb does not fuss or demand a lot. He really is just a calm cool guy wanting a chance to live out his many years as an important family member.

If you would like to meet with Jeb, please contact PAWS Brave Hearts, Calais Maine at pawscalais@yahoo.com or call 1-207-454-7662.

Thank you Guisinger Photography!

About Our Shelter...
PAWS Brave Hearts is an all volunteer, no/kill animal care, adoption and education center for homeless companion animals. Most of the animals in our care come to us directly from Animal Control and police officers or through our Trap/Neuter/Adopt/ Return (TNAR) program which includes the care and management of feral colonies. We also assist animals who are about to become homeless due to the loss of a beloved guardian.

In addition to providing transitional care and adoption services, we work with local schools to educate young people about the plight of homeless animals and engage them in many of our organization's activities.

We do this work because we believe that all animals deserve respect and care, including loving, permanent homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...
In addition to weekly walk-in hours, we conduct many community-based adoption events through PAWS Around Town. These events can be found on our web-site www.paws-calais.com.
Our Adoption Process...
PAWS Brave Hearts offers a user-friendly adoption process. Our short application is posted on our web-site, under adoption, where it can be downloaded and emailed back to the organization. The application includes references from a 1) veterinarian (for experienced guardians), 2) a landlord (for renters) and 3) individuals who know you. When applications are complete and sent to us via email, they can be processed as quickly as we are able to speak with references.

Our process is designed to find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care by assessing the adopter's lifestyle and preferences for a companion animal and then find the match they are seeking! We offer the highly regarded ASPCA Meet Your Match assessment to adopters.

We frequently send photos and speak with adopters at length about animals who appear to be ideal companions before they travel to our location for a meet and greet. This process has proven to be very successful for both adopters and their new best friends!

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
PAWS Brave Hearts serves all of Washington County. Given our close proximity to Canada, both adopters and veterinarians are from the US and Canada.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

JEB, a Calais Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Calais, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Calais.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Calais already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Calais breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Calais paves the way for another one to be saved.
