Hello I'm Luta. I know my name sounds like I'm a girl, but I am a boy--a strapping, handsome boy at that! Some people say I should be named Cathy. Why? Because I am a Chatty Cathy when I am locked in my cage. See, I love attention and people, and when I am locked in my cage, I cry out desperately for you. What that means is that when you take me home, you'll have a great friend and companion. I'm told that a lot of the staff and volunteers here are smitten with me, but they can't take me home, which leaves me available for you! Even some members of the vet staff fell in love with me.

How did a cool guy like me end up at the MaxFund? I was found near the cat shelter. I don't know if someone dumped me here with no carrier or if I somehow made my way over here. But here I am. That means not much is known about my background but hopefully my future looks bright! I enjoy petting and affection, and if you insist, you can pick me up. As you can hopefully see in my photo, I am pretty good looking and suave.

I am more than just a handsome face though. I have a big heart that yearns to make you happy. I seem ok with the other cats here so would likely be fine with another one in your home. I am on a special diet for digestion. That's no big deal though. It's kind of like humans who stop eating gluten or peanuts. For some of us, it's just better to have food that won't cause digestive issues. Unlike humans, though, I don't have to worry about finding food at a restaurant or at friends' houses. I have special food that is easy to get, and I don't go out to dinner. It's easy-peasy.

So how about it? Ready for some big-time love to come into your life? If so, rush down here and meet me--please!

About MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

The MaxFund is a non-profit organization that was established in May of 1988 to provide medical care for injured pets with no known owners, and to seek out new homes for these animals once they have recovered. The MaxFund is a no-kill dog and cat shelter. MaxFund assists hundreds of people and animals each year by trying to make the correct match between owner and pet. MaxFund adopts our animals to Colorado residents only.

The MaxFund is a TRUE no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for. EVERY animal is kept until its owner is found or it is placed in a new adoptive home.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption fees:

Cats: $25
Kittens (under 12 months): $75
Dogs: $125
Puppies (under 6 months) $200
Dogs over 8 years: $75

All applicants will be asked to submit the names and phone numbers of 3 personal references (relatives don't count), the name and phone number of your veterinarian if you have one, the name and phone number of your landlord (if applicable) and information about your current living situation. We also require that all immediate family members meet the animal prior to adoption to ensure compatibility. We would hate to adopt an animal into a family and later find out the dog doesn't like the kids or the husband doesn't like the animal, etc. You can print out an application on our website at

If you are interested in adopting a dog and have filled out an application, MaxFund will ask you to bring any currently owned dogs to the shelter for a “meet-and-greet” to ensure they can stand each other before they become a family. Because we examine adoption applications carefully and contact all references, same-day adoptions are extremely rare and should not be expected!
