Slate's Story...
I came to AWLMC from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. I was found as a stray. I am a handsome gray tabby with white feet. I am a gentle, loveable cat. I have a super loving personality and just want to find my forever home. I am a little timid in new surroundings, but once I am comfortable I become curious and want to explore. I give kisses and head butts. I like to be held or sit near you and be petted. I talk too! I love to play, especially with toy mice and balls. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the critters outside. I am a little too curious around doors, so my new family will have to be careful. I am considered a special needs cat. I have asthma, that is most likely triggered by an allergy. I am on medication to control it. Please don't let this stop you from adopting me. I am super cat that really needs a special loving home. I was born in 2010.

About Our Shelter...
As many of you may already know, we have a mission: To enhance the lives of Montgomery County Maryland residents and animals through programs directed at education, adoption, animal shelter, and low cost spay/neuter. The AWLMC is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable animals in Montgomery County Maryland. With this in mind, we are partnering with the county shelter to help save the most at-risk animals. Currently, we are only working with cats. We hope to be able to add a dog program soon.

In order to save as many cats as possible, we have opened a no-kill shelter in Gaithersburg. We need your help in the form of direct financial donations and by volunteering your time. Our organization is strong and full of highly dedicated volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, professions and abilities. We are working together to save the lives of cats and kittens, to find them loving, forever homes and to have them spay/neutered. All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

We are the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.

Our Adoption Process...
All members of the adopter's household should be present at the adoption.

For all adopters who rent their home, we must see a copy of the adopter's lease or rental agreement showing that pets are allowed.

Current adoption fees: $125 for adults (cats over 1 year old) and kittens.
All of our cats and kittens are spayed/neutered. We currently accept only check or cash, although we hope to be able to accept credit cards in the future.

Potential adopters are required to fill out an application and to be interviewed by an AWLMC adoption counselor.

We can request home visits or vet checks prior to approving anyone for adoption.

Upon approval, the adopter must sign an adoption contract.

Adopters must have proof of ID (a driver's license or other government issued identification).

We will follow up on our adoptions which can include e-mails, phone calls, home visits, and vet checks.

These rules are subject to change.
