My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stormy Blue is one great dog! She is active and playful. Stormy enjoys racing across the yard, running and jumping with her foster sister, and helping her foster brother chase away all those squirrels. She walks eagerly, coming right up to put on her leash for her favorite activity of the day. She is a beautiful blue merle sheltie companion.

AGE: 7 years

SIZE: 15 inches at withers, 24 pounds

TEMPERAMENT: Stormy Blue is happy, alert, and playful. She is shy with new people, but will become your friend in a short while. She comes readily to her people for a pat, a treat or simply to be near.

FENCE: A secure chain link, wood or vinyl fence with no gaps, and with secure gates and direct access to the house is required. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

DOGS: Stormy Blue loves playing with her foster siblings and is a quick learner. She will thrive with 1 or 2 other dogs in her forever home.

CATS: Unknown - no cats in her foster home, but she gives no reaction when she has seen cats at the pet store.

LEASH MANNERS: Stormy Blue comes up for her leash and loves to walk. She is not trained to heel yet. She scouts out sounds and smells as she goes, bouncing along with our pack. We think she can be trained to heel without much difficulty.

HOUSETRAINED: Yes. Of course, regular meal times, observation and a consistent potty routine are needed to help her to be successful in a new home.

CRATE TRAINED: Stormy Blue was crated in her foster home initially, but now can roam free in the house during the work day and at night without incident.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Stormy Blue has not yet had any formal training. She comes when called and has good manners, but would benefit from more obedience training. She is smart and learns well so this would be quite readily accomplished. Minnesota Sheltie Rescue offers obedience training classes to adopters and foster families.

KIDS: Unknown-no kids in her foster home. Short contacts with children while on walks have been without incident.

CAR RIDES: At this point, Stormy Blue does get car sick at times, but shows no fear or reluctance in riding. More practice with short car rides to fun places may help her adjust to the motion.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Stormy Blue is curious and playful, but not hyperactively so. She loves to run around with other dogs, and explore her fenced yard. Walks are her favorite activity; 2 or 3 walks a day would be perfect!

BARKING: Not a problem. Stormy Blue barks very little for a Sheltie and her bark is low-keyed.

HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.

Stormy Blue is a beautiful, affectionate companion. She'll play hard with her friends, then come up to you for a pat before she curls up to watch the family activities. If you are looking for a friend for your Sheltie and for yourself, Stormy Blue will be perfect! We are looking for a forever home in the Twin Cities for Stormy Blue so that she won't have to spend much time traveling in the car.

**The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.**

Please read our adoption guidelines at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org/howtoadopt prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions.

Stormy Blue's adoption fee is $250.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc.
