Juniper's Story...
Hello there, my name is Juniper. I'm a sleek black kitty but I'm a big boy too. I used to live in a wonderful home with my 4 kitty roommates and a wonderful person. We lived with our person since we were just little kitties. Mostly we shared our lives with her and each other but we saw visitors too. I'm a little nervous around new people but once I get to know them, I do like meeting them. But our person passed away. We miss her so much. We were lucky to find this place called Cat Care Society. They are taking very good care of us now, but as nice as the shelter is, it's not as nice as having a home of our own. Now we are all looking to meet some new wonderful people who might take each of us (or even more than one of us) to another great home. All of us are great cats. I myself am a little shy at first but it doesn't take long for me to warm up to my new friends. I'll even hop into your lap and purr once I really like you. I love to play with all kinds of toys. I hope you like to play too. Come on by the shelter soon and get to know me. I know we can be good friends.

About Our Shelter...
Cat Care Society, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1981 to improve the quality of life for homeless, injured, and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area.

The Society's purposes are:

To sponsor educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of all animals, and to reduce pet overpopulation.

To shelter cats in a healthy, cage-free environment and to provide compatible and responsible adoptions.

To provide community outreach programs that improve the quality of life for cats and people.

To be a friend to all cats.

The shelter provides a temporary refuge for up to 50 cats until an appropriate and permanent home can be found for each. Veterinary care, premium diet, and human interaction are lovingly provided.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Cat Care Society is located at 5787 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. We are on the frontage road north of 6th Avenue, between Sheridan Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. It is easiest to access the frontage road via Sheridan Avenue.

CCS is open Tuesday through Friday Noon - 5:30, Saturday 11 - 4:30 and Sunday Noon - 3:00. The shelter is closed on Monday.

Our Adoption Process...
If you are looking to adopt a cat, we encourage you to visit our shelter. There are no scheduled appointments at CCS – simply drop by during the shelter’s open hours.

When you visit the shelter seeking to adopt, a Shelter Assistant will greet you. They will ask you to fill out a “Cat Finder Assistance” form that gives an idea of the type of cat you are seeking. If you have children, we require they visit the shelter with you. Also, renters should come prepared with a copy of their lease indicating cats are allowed, or their landlord’s phone number so we can verify pet allowances.

Once you have found a cat that suits you – which may take more than one visit – a Shelter Assistant will have you fill out an adoption application. You will then go through the adoption process to learn more about the specific cat you have chosen and to review the adoption contract. Adoption paperwork usually takes about 30 minutes to complete and review.

Cats available for adoption at CCS have tested negative for feline leukemia and feline AIDS (FIV). They have undergone a physical examination upon entry into the shelter, and received distemper and upper respiratory vaccinations. All adoptable cats and kittens have been spayed or neutered. All cats and kittens leave the shelter with a 15-day health care assistance plan, a collar and ID tag, and an implanted microchip used to help return lost pets to their homes. We also provide a cardboard carrier to take the cat or kitten home.

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees are:

$90 Adoption fee for one cat or kitten
$150* Discounted adoption fee for adopting a pair of cats (both cats must be one year or older)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Juniper, a Lakewood Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Lakewood, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Lakewood.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Lakewood already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Lakewood breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Lakewood paves the way for another one to be saved.
