1209-0635 Newman's Story...

Thank you for your interest in our adoptable animals.  If you would like more information about this pet, see the Shelter information below.   We would love to help you rescue a perfect pet!

Newman is almost 5 years old.  He is always smiling and a lot of fun to be around.  He absolutely loves his humans.  He wants to please them.  He is eager to learn.  He has picked up on some commands quickly and with a little more time and attention, he'll be a lot of fun to work w/ when teaching him more commands.  This is also a wonderful bonding time for you and him.  He is learning about the crate which will make it much easier for him to fit into any home where you might have to run out and do a few errands for a little while.  Newman loves loves loves to go for walks and has learned that pulling on the leash is no fun.  This behavior has subsided so much that any walk you take will be enjoyable where both you and he can enjoy the neighborhood, beach or trail that much more.  When waiting for his harness to be placed on him, although he is so excited to get out of that cage, he will sit nicely and although his paws are doing a little shortened version of a happy dance, he has learned to wait for the harness.  Why has he learned so much?  Newman has learned so much because he loves his humans and he loves that attention.  He works very hard to contain himself in certain instances just so he can please you.  Newman is dog friendly as well although he definitely gets along better w/ the females!  He can get so excited, however, which comes out as rough play, so monitoring playtime is best just to keep his excitement at a manageable level.  He has a lot of energy but with daily walks and playtime, he is definitely a dog who is loyal and loving and will just hang out w/ you and your friends.  Newman has shown some touch sensitivity in the past but we have been working on this with him and he is improving greatly.  Even so, we still believe he would do best in a home w/ older children or no children.  Newman loves to go for car rides and is very polite in the car; he sits so nicely in his spot and just enjoys the views.  If you have a resident dog, please bring her up to the shelter for a meet and greet to make sure they can get along.  Newman is always smiling, even for being in a shelter for so long.  He is loving and attentive and fun and smart and...well, why don't you just come down to the shelter and visit him yourself, you'll see!
