Macy's Info...
| Breed: | Retriever (Unknown Type) Mix | Color: | Black - With White | Age: | Young |
| Size: | Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) | Sex: | Female | ID#: | D-4333 |
Meet sweet, sweet Macy who we believe is a 1-2 yr. old retriever mix weighing in at about 62 lb. She is very friendly and will greet you by giving you her paw - she loves giving you her paw. Mostly black with a white bib on her chest and white tips on her back paws, Macy will touch you with her soulful caramel-colored eyes.
We believe Macy will thrive with an active family, couple or single person who will provide her with opportunities to run as well as other bonding activities: a fenced yard or regular visits to the dog park would be a plus. She loves children as well as other dogs (having won over the sometimes temperamental resident dog who lives in her foster home and they now love playing together).
Macy goes to the door to let her foster family know she needs to go potty. While not thrilled about being crated, she does handle it without any fuss. She enjoys her toys and is not much of a barker. Macy is a big, strong girl - she has made good progress walking on leash and is continuing to improve as her foster family works with her on this and other basic commands that make life easier for everyone. Anyone adopting Macy will have a quick learner on their hands but should be committed to continue her training so that she can be the best Macy possible.
She loves to be with her foster family, so we're hoping she'll be adopted into a dog-savvy home where she won't be left alone long hours every day. She will most definitely be a wonderful, loving and loyal companion to her lucky adopter.
Macy's adoption fee of $300 includes: vet exam, fecal test, deworming meds, heartworm test (neg), distemper vaccination, bordetella and rabies vaccinations, flea control, microchip and spay.
Shelter Info...
ADOPT-A-PET is an all-volunteer non-profit animal shelter/adoption agency dedicated to saving the lives of lost, abandoned or otherwise homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and placing them into permanent, loving homes.
ADOPT-A-PET provides a safe refuge and a second chance for unclaimed animals from various municipal pounds and, space permitting, accepts other homeless, neglected or injured animals from their rescuers.
ADOPT-A-PET was founded in 1981, and has since saved the lives of over 15,000 animals. All animals at Adopt-A-Pet are found permanent loving homes. Animals remain with us for as long as it takes to find them a suitable permanent new home.
ADOPT-A-PET does not own a shelter facility. All of our animals are boarded at co-operating animal hospitals or in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by their new families.
ADOPT-A-PET provides all necessary medical care for every animal. All animals are health-checked, vaccinated, treated for medical problems and spayed/neutered.
ADOPT-A-PET is available for educational speaking engagements to schools and community groups in Chicago or the suburbs to promote proper pet care, compassion for animals, and the importance of spaying and neutering.
Adopt-A-Pet does not own a shelter facility. Because all of our animals are in private foster homes, they are shown by appointment only, after an application has been submitted.
Occasional public weekend adoption events are posted on the Home Page of our website: www.adoptapet-il.org
Our adoption process: Adopt-A-Pet does not own a shelter facility. Because all of our animals are in private foster homes, they are shown by appointment, after an application has been submitted.
How to start the process: Contact us by email or phone. An adoption counselor will return your message within 1-2 days. You will be asked to fill out an application that will ask for personal information about your family, your home and about the kind of pet you're looking for. Vet references, personal references and landlord information (if applicable) is required. You can also download an application from our website. Once you return the application, an adoption counselor will call you back for a more thorough interview, again within 1-2 days. Sometimes it may take a little longer as we're all volunteers and sometimes it gets very busy. Assuming the pet you're interested in appears to be a match for you, a meeting will then be set up. For some animals, a home check may be required. If an adoption takes place, you will be asked to sign a contract and pay an adoption fee. Each animal's individual adoption fee is posted in its description on our websites.
Adopt-A-Pet serves Chicagoland area and north, northwest, and west suburbs.
