Obie's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, a special needs pet, and good with dogs.

Obie's Story...
Obie is a 2 year deaf mostly white fawnequin male with natural ears. He came from a couple who broke up and didn’t want him anymore. He came into foster care and instantly bonded to his foster Dad and follows him everywhere. He does know some hand commands (sit, lay down, come, stay) and will look at you for guidance if he is not sure. Obie loves to go on walks and playing with other dogs. He does best with an “easy-walk harness” on walks. Before coming to foster care, he had never been on a walk (they just let him run freely around in the yard). He has come a long way and has gotten much better. He tended to want to lead and pull on walks. I have been teaching him to not pull as much and to walk next to me. He does best with a quicker pace. He enjoys when people come up and pet him. He is very gentle with others. The only thing that I have noticed is with other dogs he doesn’t know, he tends to move a little too quick towards them and/or the other dog gets spooked. Obie enjoys playing with my 2 other dogs (Oscar a dachshund and Liz a black lab). It took him a little getting used to playing with smaller dogs but has learned to be gentle with him. They play tug-a-war with the toys and enjoy playing with each other. I have tried putting Obie in a crate since his previous owners said he was crate trained. Unfortunately he does not do well in the crate. He gets very stressed and tries to escape. I stopped using the crate because I didn’t feel comfortable having him in there and thought he would hurt himself. He has been much happier since not using the crate. He will sleep in his bed while I'm gone or on the floor and has never destroyed anything. One thing to keep in mind is that he is on a schedule for going to the bathroom. If you are not back within a reasonable time he will go on the floor. Otherwise he is very good when left alone. I also use baby gates to block off rooms that I don’t want him in. He is very respectful of them and has not tried to go over them. Obie does well with people, it just takes him a little to warm up them. I have noticed that when new people come over to my place he gets very excited for the first few minutes then is unsure about them and growls at them. Once he is comfortable with them, he is very happy and affectionate. I have never had a problem with him on walks with meeting people so that may be something to consider when people come over for the first time (have him meet them outside vs. inside the house). Over all he is a very happy and affectionate dog who loves nothing more than to just be around you and go on walks.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Obie, a Manassas Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in Manassas, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in Manassas.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Manassas already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Manassas breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Manassas paves the way for another one to be saved.
