Facts about Tommy

  • Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix
  • Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Tom came from the farthest western part of the county. He walked out of the woods behind Tom & Patty Mcleod house, Tom McLeod believed he was abandoned at the hunting club a couple of miles behind his house. The club is actually in Perry County & the McLeod's have seen many of these hunting breeds show up at there home. Severely underweight with Erlicia this pure bred large Deer Hound was definitely built for the hunt. Tom was brought to Skyview to recover the summer of 2010. Upon arrival at his foster moms, she noticed that at one time Tom suffered an injury to both front legs, each front lower leg showed signs of having been broken. Also Tom's ears give him problems, large hanging hound ears need to be tended to. He's an older dog, say 5 to 6 years old, these where not easy either, his teeth show signs of years of flea grooming. Today Tom is a healthy happy hound fully recovered. This wonderful companion, loves house, adores his crate, & very patient on leash. Off leash Tom wonders close by returning often for encouragement, he is a hound however & his nose does hit the ground but he is still retrievable. He is very lovable, gets along with other dogs, shows no prey drive towards puppies or small dogs.

About Hickman Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Our mission and focus is to benefit the lives of the animals and people in our county by providing for the humane treatment of pets thru foster care, appropriate medical care, rehabilitation of pets, comprehensive adoption coordination, consistent spay/neuter funding programs and public education with a goal of reducing the homeless pet population, irresponsible breeding and the prevention of cruelty and neglect to animals.

Donate to Our Rescue Group...

Since ALL of our funding is from donations (we are not supported by a government agency), fundraising and a few spay/neuter grants, we always need monetary donations and food and supply donations including straw and bedding material. With winter coming we could really use some more dog houses and tarps (used is welcome). Used crates are also always needed. Pick up can be arranged within a reasonable distance. Thank you for your support.
