Sophie's Story...
Sophie, a purebred Bluetick Coonhound, was minutes away from being euthanized in a shelter, along with her 4 puppies that were only 1 week old when we pulled her to safety. We thought she was a beagle but when our volunteers arrived at the shelter, we got a big surprise to find out she is actually a Coonhound! She currently weighs 62 lbs and is on the thin side so she is much larger than the beagles we’re used to working with. But hey..she needed to be saved too! Her puppies have all been adopted, so now it’s her turn to find a forever family. If you have experience with Coonhounds and want a lover, please complete the adoption application!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sophie, a Portland Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Coonhound for sale in Portland, or seeking a Coonhound dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Coonhound breeders who help with Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
