BEBE's Story...
Update 8-19-13   I can't even talk about BeBe without tearing up. You would just have to spend a few minutes with this little dog to understand how deeply she can touch your heart. All she has ever wanted in life is to be a couch potato. BeBe doesn't get in a hurry about anything. All of our other dogs come flying out of their kennels when we open the gate, BeBe just slowly walks out and ever so gently, she puts her paws up on your chest and looks at you with the most expressive eyes. She bats those eyes at you a few times and then she rolls over to get her belly rubbed. Same routine every day.. BeBe and her kennel mate "Roxie" are like senior citizens. They both act like they are a hundred years old, creeping around the playground. It is hilarious to watch these two in slow motion. BeBe and Roxie both came from horrible beginnings.  They both were extremely abused before we got them. And they became kennel mates at our shelter. They got adopted together a few years ago and we cried a million tears that day. All of a sudden, these pitiful dogs with the most horrific past were living the good life. We got pictures of them in matching sweaters at Christmas and there was BeBe stretched out on the couch like a queen. And then one day, out of the blue, their owner returned them to our shelter. She said she was moving and they couldn't come along. From that Christmas sweater and soft sofa, they were put right back outside at our primitive shelter. In the dead of winter. My heart broke for BeBe and Roxie that day and I have never gotten over it. How they must have felt when they ended up back at our shelter. That was about 4 years ago and I still see the sadness in BeBe's eyes. God Bless these little dogs. I am crying still...

BeBe (pronounced Bay-Bay)  is such a babe! There is nothing more in this world that makes her happy than being cooed to and pet and massaged and loved on.  She is in this world to love her humans and she is a poster girl for giving unconditional love in return.  A favorite of our volunteers - BeBe will absolutely make the perfect companion for some lucky single or family.  She is very gentle and would be a wonderful pet for a senior.  Please give us a call and come meet BeBe.  You will be so very happy that you did.

About Tunica Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Tunica Humane Society desires to improve the quality of life for all animals in Tunica County by aggressively pursuing a high quality, low cost spay-neuter program. We are dedicated to saving the lives of all animals who are endangered, neglected, abandoned or abused. It is our hearts desire to see Tunica become a "NO KILL" model community in a world where over 5 million dogs and cats are destroyed every year simply because they are considered "disposable".
"Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin, and Toto don't show up in a rescue shelter. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, or perfectly behaved dog or cat. We get leftovers. Animals that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained" and badly treated. Most rescue dogs and cats have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've lived outside..in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed, and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.

But the Tunica Humane Society will not give up. We will never give up on an animal. We know that they are living beings, with a spirit, a heart, and feelings. Our animals are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminister champion. So...please, please don't come to rescue a dog or cat in the hopes of getting a "bargain" or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to the shelter to give, to love, and to save a life and to mend your own spirit. For rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this...a rescue dog or cat will make you a better person." UNKNOWN

At the Tunica Humane Society, our goal is to do the best adoption possible...matching you with a pet that will become a lifelong member of your family. To ensure the best possible match between adopter and pet, we ask that you read and understand the information provided regarding our adoption policies and procedures. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when adopting your pet and you must pay an adoption fee/donation. The fees go directly to our rescue group to help us save more animals. Thank you for opening your heart and considering adopting a shelter dog. By making this commitment, you have not only found a friend for life...you have saved a life. If at any time you cannot keep the dog, you MUST return it to the Tunica Humane Society and not to another individual or shelter.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our physical location is open by appointment only. We are a totally volunteer organization. We hold adoption events throughout the Memphis metro area each weekend and we post the events on our Facebook page.

Our Adoption Process...

We require a contract from each adopter and all adoptions are approved by the executive director, Sandy Williams. There is a $100 adoption donation. We know each of our animals by name and we can tell you all about them. We want the very best home for each animal and we want each adoption to be successful.
