Lucy's Story...

update 10-18-2012

LUCY LUCY LUCY.  My goodness you surprised us here. You grew and grew and filled out.  You are as shiny as a patent leather shoes all new and shiny for going to Sunday Church.......and your momma may have seen some MinPin photos somewhere but she never dated one.  We are pretty sure about that now.  Daddy may have been some big strapping black labby boy who swept momma off her tiny little dancey feet.  Momma was light on those little feet for sure and Lucy has dainty paws for sure....But they are elegant and work just fine to carry her around where she needs to go.

Lucy is a shy girl too.  Was as a puppy and she still is.  Lucy needs a family that will give her a little time to get used to her new space and get used to attention.  WE love on her as much as we can and we coo to her and give her little massages.  But Lucy just seems sad sometimes.  Lucy was born around September 1st of 2011 so she is just a little over a year old.   She has never known a real home and we love her so much we just cry thinking how much she is missing, and how much some family is missing by not knowing her.  She deserves a chance and we want her to have it very soon.

Lucy is a quiet, submissive girl.  She needs to learn how to walk on a leash and learn house manners and she even needs to learn how to play.  She did give me a raspberry when I was taking her photo today inside her kennel....and I laughed...and I think she was laughing inside.  She had played a little joke.  Cool.

Lucy and her brother Beau were dropped off at Tunica Humane Society to be adopted. We have them listed as German Shepherd/Lab mixes but their paws are not large, so they may be Min Pin mixes. Lucy is very shy but sweet, and she looks like a stuffed animal! For more information on Lucy or her brother or to arrange a meet and greet, please email or call us at 662-519-1700.

About Tunica Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Tunica Humane Society desires to improve the quality of life for all animals in Tunica County by aggressively pursuing a high quality, low cost spay-neuter program. We are dedicated to saving the lives of all animals who are endangered, neglected, abandoned or abused. It is our hearts desire to see Tunica become a "NO KILL" model community in a world where over 5 million dogs and cats are destroyed every year simply because they are considered "disposable".
"Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin, and Toto don't show up in a rescue shelter. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, or perfectly behaved dog or cat. We get leftovers. Animals that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained" and badly treated. Most rescue dogs and cats have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've lived a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed, and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.

But the Tunica Humane Society will not give up. We will never give up on an animal. We know that they are living beings, with a spirit, a heart, and feelings. Our animals are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminister champion. So...please, please don't come to rescue a dog or cat in the hopes of getting a "bargain" or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to the shelter to give, to love, and to save a life and to mend your own spirit. For rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this...a rescue dog or cat will make you a better person." UNKNOWN

At the Tunica Humane Society, our goal is to do the best adoption possible...matching you with a pet that will become a lifelong member of your family. To ensure the best possible match between adopter and pet, we ask that you read and understand the information provided regarding our adoption policies and procedures. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when adopting your pet and you must pay an adoption fee/donation. The fees go directly to our rescue group to help us save more animals. Thank you for opening your heart and considering adopting a shelter dog. By making this commitment, you have not only found a friend for have saved a life. If at any time you cannot keep the dog, you MUST return it to the Tunica Humane Society and not to another individual or shelter.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our physical location is open by appointment only. We are a totally volunteer organization. We hold adoption events throughout the Memphis metro area each weekend and we post the events on our Facebook page.

Our Adoption Process...

We require a contract from each adopter and all adoptions are approved by the executive director, Sandy Williams. There is a $100 adoption donation. We know each of our animals by name and we can tell you all about them. We want the very best home for each animal and we want each adoption to be successful.
