HANK is dear to all our hearts here at THS.  He has been with us since we built our shelter 4 years ago, and while he has made himself at home in his little kennel, we want so so much more for this boy.

Hank is a quiet soul.  He is a gentle soul.  He is so full of love and has a heart the size of the state of Mississippi.  He started his life as an abandoned young boy - left to live or die on the gravel roads of rural Tunica County.  WE scooped him up and here he stays.

Hank is one of the overlooked black dogs - walked past over and over and over at adoption events just because he is quiet and still and black.    Hank is about 5 years old now.  He has a lot of life left in him and we hope he can spend it with a loving family or an individual who wants a best friend to talk to on cold nights.  Hank will keep your confidences.

Hank is a water baby.  He loves to play in the kids pool we have out back.  He loves to run with the other dogs and while he is a bit timid around new people, he warms quickly when he feels secure.  PLEASE call about HANK.  He deserves so much more out of life.

About Tunica Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Tunica Humane Society desires to improve the quality of life for all animals in Tunica County by aggressively pursuing a high quality, low cost spay-neuter program. We are dedicated to saving the lives of all animals who are endangered, neglected, abandoned or abused. It is our hearts desire to see Tunica become a "NO KILL" model community in a world where over 5 million dogs and cats are destroyed every year simply because they are considered "disposable".
"Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin, and Toto don't show up in a rescue shelter. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, or perfectly behaved dog or cat. We get leftovers. Animals that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained" and badly treated. Most rescue dogs and cats have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've lived outside..in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed, and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.

But the Tunica Humane Society will not give up. We will never give up on an animal. We know that they are living beings, with a spirit, a heart, and feelings. Our animals are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminister champion. So...please, please don't come to rescue a dog or cat in the hopes of getting a "bargain" or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to the shelter to give, to love, and to save a life and to mend your own spirit. For rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this...a rescue dog or cat will make you a better person." UNKNOWN

At the Tunica Humane Society, our goal is to do the best adoption possible...matching you with a pet that will become a lifelong member of your family. To ensure the best possible match between adopter and pet, we ask that you read and understand the information provided regarding our adoption policies and procedures. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when adopting your pet and you must pay an adoption fee/donation. The fees go directly to our rescue group to help us save more animals. Thank you for opening your heart and considering adopting a shelter dog. By making this commitment, you have not only found a friend for life...you have saved a life. If at any time you cannot keep the dog, you MUST return it to the Tunica Humane Society and not to another individual or shelter.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our physical location is open by appointment only. We are a totally volunteer organization. We hold adoption events throughout the Memphis metro area each weekend and we post the events on our Facebook page.

Our Adoption Process...

We require a contract from each adopter and all adoptions are approved by the executive director, Sandy Williams. There is a $100 adoption donation. We know each of our animals by name and we can tell you all about them. We want the very best home for each animal and we want each adoption to be successful.
